VIBF AGM and Board Election

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who came to the VIBF meeting and for all the people who nominated me and seconded (and thirded!) my nomination. I am now on the Board of Directors for the 2012 festival and I'm so excited to play a bigger role in the festival this year. It's going to be a great festival!

If you are a member of the VIBF, you know that the Annual General Meeting is coming up on Wednesday June 29th at the Prophouse (UPDATE: 8pm START). If you are not a member, you can join now from the VIBF Website.

I plan to run in the election for the board. I am posting this in advance of the meeting for two reasons:

  • If you are an active member of the burlesque community then I hope you plan to attend the meeting and participate
  • To tell you a little about myself that you might not already know, and ask you to consider voting for me in the upcoming election

I want to run for a position on the board this year because I want to contribute more to this wonderful community and because I have so much experience in this business that I want to offer to the festival for 2012.

I love burlesque, I love this community, and I would like to help out as much as I can so that the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival remains awesome, and becomes even better.

Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend 2011

It was my first time in Vegas, which is enough of a story in itself, but also my first time to the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend, which is the preeminent burlesque festival in North America. Needless to say I had a fantastic time.

The festival took place at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. It's a nice enough place a few blocks off the strip. I got tired of all the blinking lights and sounds from the slot machines, but certainly not tired of all the wonderful and beautiful people who were there for the festival.

One of the most fun things about this festival for me is how everyone dresses up so well. It's one of the reasons I got involved in burlesque, among other obvious reasons, but to me I love to dress up, especially in vintage clothing, suits, ties, etc, so I've always felt like this community is a pretty good fit for me....

Sharing the stage with Catherine D'Lish

So it's not the best photo of me, but since Catherine D'Lish is so famous I figure I should post it. Last Saturday night I had the pleasure to "share the stage" with this famous burlesque star. I've learned this new phrase "share the stage" which really means that we performed in the same show, but were not necessarily on stage at the same time. Tricky language really.

D'Lish was incredible. She brought her giant martini glass which she actually climbs into and has a bath in.

Chai Tea, Doc Chocolate and I performed a song in tribute to her. She thanked us all with a kiss on the cheek backstage. She's a really nice person backstage as well. Very kind and it was a pleasure to meet her and see her perform. And now I can say I "shared a stage" with Catherine D'Lish! ... (I have also shared a stage with Michelle L'Amour. Just saying is all.)

Here I am with Doc, Chai, and D'Lish. She is wrapped in a towel because she just got off stage from performing in her giant martini glass:

And here's the whole cast of the Velvet Hearts show. You can see me peaking my head out at the back right:
