Blue Morris in the Taboo Review

Blue Morris is the sad clown in Taboo Review I've done a lot of very interesting gigs in my time, especially since I have been playing guitar for various burlesque groups in town, and of course producing Pink Flamingo Burlesque shows.

This weekend I am in Screaming Chicken's Taboo Review. Originally I was asked to play guitar for a number, but during a rehearsal the producers were lamenting that they needed more clowns. Then they looked at me...

I gulped because I knew this would include a choreographed dance routine, and I am not a dancer. I told them I wouldn't be able to make any of the rehearsals because I am teaching so much these days, etc, etc, and the only night I have off is Friday...

"That's perfect!" Violet said. "Friday is the clown rehearsal!" ... and that's how it starts.

Screaming Chicken Intimate Evening, September 2010

Even though I am not actually a member of the Screaming Chicken Theatrical Society, I have been performing with them a lot lately, thanks especially to Chai Tea who keeps hiring me to play guitar. Here are some photos from the last "Intimate Evening" show at the Chicken Coop. The show was produced by my good friend Bobbi Whiskey.

This is me with the emcee for the evening, Flash L'efox:

Here are Chai Tea and Ava Lure in their tear-jerking performance of "Irreplaceable," with me on guitar. This is, umm, before their clothes come off:

And here are all the boys in the show, me, Chai Tea, and Doc Chocolate performing Jonathan Coulton's "Soft Rocked by Me." Doc is rockin' the tambourine.

Urban Rush with Pink Flamingo Burlesque

Pink Flamingo Burlesque on Urban Rush

The whole band of Flamingos and I got to perform on Urban Rush, Shaw TV's daily talk show. We played the song "Minnie the Moocher." Since it was public TV, and therefore, not suitable for real burlesque, Shaboobie danced but of course wasn't allowed to actually strip.

One of the hosts of the show, Fiona, introduced us and then told the audience, "kids, leave the room now!"

I don't have license to post the video to YouTube, but I did manage to get some photos of us on my cellphone....

Bowties: I'm back in style, dammit!

Blue Morris wears a 1950s batwing-style bow tieFashionistas are saying that the young kids are sporting bow ties, though I have yet to see it myself.

Since I was young, I've always said that I was supposed to have been born 50 years before I was. I have always felt a connection to the music and the fashion of the 1940s and 1950s -- the suits, the hats, the ties -- and yes, even the bow ties.

I rarely desire to buy clothes of contemporary styles. In the 1980s when I was in high school, I refused to wear acid-wash jeans. Now that the 80s styles are back, I still refuse to wear acid-wash jeans. I mean no offense to anyone who does, they're just not for me. The same goes for neon. I think wearing a neon shirt would make me feel like a traffic cone.
