Here is a transcription of my improvisation on Erroll Garner's song, Misty. A link to the PDF of this score is below.
I recorded this song at about 2am on a rainy night when I couldn't sleep. I intentionally left my apartment window open and the sound of the rain and the occasional passerby can be heard as recorded through a second microphone. Somehow, the sounds of the wind, the rain, and the occasional car driving by ad a nice ebb and flow to the intensity of the performance. That's why, on the album, the track is listed as "This is how it sounds outside my window - Misty." |

Written for an ex-girlfriend, though she doesn't know it, and I hope she never hears it. Lyrics are included in the score, and every word of it is true. You can also download the song in MP3 format from the Moanin' Album page.

For those of you who don't know me, I love dance, especially lindy hop and balboa. I wanted to write something that would be perfect for that last dance of the night. Lyrics are included.

This solo jazz guitar EP was recorded in my Vancouver apartment back in 2002. The three improvisations are based on familiar jazz standards, but are performed with a lot of elasticity in the tempo of each piece. This rising and falling tempo is especially suited for a piece like "My Romance", which also has a rising and falling melody that works so well on the guitar. |
