 Carly Jepsen at Trees Cafe Despite the name, the Blue Morris 6 has seven members, though we frequently play with just six, and recently played as a quintet at the Ridge Coffee Roasting Company in Maple Ridge. This causes some confusion for our audiences, but it gives us a good chuckle.
No matter, the band played wonderfully that night and I have a few choice cuts posted below which you can download for free.
One of the highlights of the night for me was Carly's wonderful phrasing on "I Could Write a Book." She's really swinging that number now. Greg's solo on "Blues in F" is smokin'.
And in our last improvised number, Nick steals the show. What was intended to be a little blues jam turned into a 13-minute musical manifesto I'm calling "From the Belly." Listen to the track and you'll hear why. During this song, Nick absolutely captivated the audience. During the quieter moments, you can hear that the audience is silent, focused on every note. What starts out as a cool blues number turns into a funky riffin' tune, something like we've never done before. And the beauty of it was that it was entirely unplanned. That's jazz. That's the blues. It's 13 minutes long so it's a larger file to download, but it's worth it. I hope you agree.
