Blue Morris
Blue Morris
That was the best ever attended Trees Cafe gig we have played. There were so many people there that my friends said they had to "stand" in the "nosebleed section." And with all those people, there was absolutely no room for dancing. Sorry about that.

I have to say, everyone who came out that night was just fantastic. I've never played for such an enthusiastic audience before and it really made a difference in how we played. An audience's attitude really affects a musician's performance, especially when playing improvised music like jazz. An improvisation is a direct expression of what's going on in the musician's mind at that very moment. The music then feeds off the energy in the room.

Here are a few examples we recorded that night:

We had an after party at Carly's new apartment and I still can't believe how many people commented on how good the band is sounding. Thanks! It's great to hear!

Thanks especially to pianist Lou Wang who joined us as a special guest that night!

Here's the copy we had on the poster. It's all about Carly:

Who can resist the sound of this songbird's voice? Carly Jepsen sings, and swings, with the Blue Morris 6 Swing and Blues Band, Sept 16, at Trees Organic Cafe.

Where did you find this gal, Blue?

She found me! I never planned on having a singer in my band, but one day I get a call from some cutesy voice and it's all sayin' "hey Blue, I know you're not lookin' for a singer, but I got a voice, see, and I was jus' wondrin' if ya wanna hear it..." So I says, sure I wanna hear it. Turns out, she puts the "ass" in "sass." The rest is history.

Where is Carly from?
She's from Mission. Not a place famous for jazz singers, but you know, any kid can come from anywhere if she's got talent and heart. Carly's got both.

Is she difficult to work with?
Actually, she's a good kid. But I gotta keep the boys' paws off her, ya know?

How old is she?
None 'a your bizness. She's young, but man can she sing! She's got a unique style that's one part swing, one part pop, and the rest is just aaalll Carly.

Is she free on Friday night?
Naw man, she's singin' with the band at Trees Café, Friday Sept 16. You can see her there, gate.

Don't miss Carly Jepsen singing with the Blue Morris 6 Swing and Blues Band live at Trees Organic Café.

* There is a small error (a short gap) in the file for the song "Deed I Do." I apologize for this but there was a problem with the Minidisc. However, the track is good and it's well worth listening to, so I include it anyway. I hope you like it too. Blue.
