We make millions of little choices each day of our lives, and the choices we make, no matter how insignificant they seem at the time, send us down different paths.
 Blue's Jazz Diary How does the improvising musician let the music flow from his creative mind without being distracted by all the theoretical choices that melody and harmony present? We don't think about it.
It is necessary to learn the theory in order to play the music in your creative mind, or else you would not be able to translate those ideas through your instrument. But the theory must become second nature. Just as we do not think about grammar when we speak or write in English, we must not think about music theory when we "speak" in the musical language.
We must learn the rules, then we must forget the rules. Should we do the same in life?
