It's no surprise to any of us lucky enough to have heard Carly perform live, nor to those of us who got to perform with her for two years, but Carly is now in the top 10 of Canadian Idol!
The competition is getting pretty stiff. The people who have no talent have all been knocked off and now it's 10 young singers who all have pipes, but some of whom have rather questionable taste in music and clothes. But of course I am definitely not the target market for this show, so what do I know?
In this week's show they mentioned that Carly used to sing for a swing band. When interviewing Carly, the host of the show Ben Mulroney says that he wants to see Carly perform with the swing band. Oh but if only they mentioned the name of that band... the Blue Morris 6!
Aside from being a talented singer, one of things that Carly is doing right is that she's making every performance a little different. I think that's helping her to stand out. And it's interesting to see the other contestants copy her. For example, a couple weeks ago Carly started her song while sitting on a stool, then half-way through the song she got up to dance around. The next week we see some of the guys do the same thing. Then last week Carly sang a very cool rendition of a Sarah Slean song while she walked about the audience and even sat in some guy's lap. So of course then this week JD (or however you spell that little dude's name), well he does the same thing. Only he's so stiff when he does it.
I'm having trouble listening to all the country music in the show because I cannot handle the twang. I wish Zach would have lived up to his promise when he told Tara Oram several weeks ago, [paraphrasing] "if I hear that twang again tomorrow I'm voting you off the show!" And then there's that Jaydee squirt singing like an auctioneer. Please spare me and vote for Carly as many times as your re-dial fingers can handle it!
