If you're Canadian and of a certain age, then you know this band. You might even love them. I certainly do. This is one of my favourite Blue Rodeo ballads. I'd say it's a Jim Cuddy classic. Great lyrics, great vocal performance.
As one of my guitar students likes to point out, this song was written before cell phones were common, as Jim excuses himself for not calling her because he "didn't have your number in my hand." Was it really just bad timing Jim? I suppose there were still phone books in those days.
In case you need it, that Gsus4 can be played like this: 320013. You'll need to hold your normal G with the your 3rd, 2nd and pinky fingers so that your first finger will be free to hold down that extra note for the Gsus4.

Bad Timing - Blue Rodeo 1994
CAPO 2
INTRO: D C D G
C
Hey it's me what a big surprise
G Gsus4 G
Calling you up from a restaurant 'round the bend
C
Just got in from way up North
C G Gsus4 G
I'm achy and tired now, and I could use a friend
Bm C D
I'd be a fool, to think that you do, want to see me again
C
I know it's been awhile since I talked to you
G Gsus4 G
Nothing wrong, just nothing ever goes as planned
C
Many times I thought I'd call
G Gsus4 G
Didn't have your number in my hand
Bm C D
Oh, I know it's true, you'd never do, the same thing to me
G
I never meant to make you cry
C
And though I know I shouldn't call
Am
It just reminds us of the cost
D
For everything we've lost
G
Bad timing that's all
And maybe soon there'll come a day
C
When no more tears will fall
Am
We each forgive a little bit
D
And we both look back on it
G
As just bad timing that's all
SOLO: D A D A C#m D E
C
Used to have so many plans,
G Gsus4 G
Something always seemed to turn out wrong

Moving on and doing all you've done

I don't know why, the harder I try, the harder it comes
G
I never meant to make you cry

Bad timing that's all
And maybe soon there'll come a day

We each forgive a little bit
