While My Guitar Gently Weeps Fingerstyle

Beatles While My Guitar Gently Weeps cover

The song has one of the best chord progressions of all time, and great lyrics for us guitar lovers. Below is my acoustic fingerstyle guitar arrangement of the Beatles classic song, While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I wrote this for one of my students taking guitar lessons here with me in Vancouver.

The arrangement has an Intro that mimics the piano line in the original song. Make sure to use alternate fingers of your right hand to play that A note over and over. Otherwise you won't be able to play it smooth enough.

Remember it was Eric Clapton who played the lead guitar parts on this song. I've incorporated his great E major lick into measure eight and it repeats later on.

The Bridge of the song works especially well for this type of arrangement. We can avoid using a bar for the A major chord (measure 25) and incorporate an open string to keep the vocal melody moving on top.

I've written Verse 3 up an octave for variety. Then an Outro which is essentially just another verse slowed down and with fewer notes. Play it as dramatic as you like.
